Chlorophyll density Details

Chlorophyll-a images are provided in a JPEG format for 6 areas by using the ocean color satellite data. These images are obtained from the following organizations.
  1. MODIS (Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer) Chlorophyll-a (Chl-a) images of Terra/Aqua satellites received at Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA).
MODIS ocean color data processed by the JAXA developed Chl-a estimation algorithm for ADEOS-II GLI.
  2. MODIS Chl-a images of Terra/Aqua satellites processed by National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).
MODIS ocean color data processed at every 5 minutes interval by NASA SeaDAS (SeaWiFS Data Analysis System) standard algorithm (OC3M) obtained from NASA Ocean Color Web(http://oceancolor.gsfc.nasa.gov/)
  3. SeaWiFS(Sea-viewing Wide Field-of -view Sensor) Chl-a images from Orbview-2 satellite processed by NASA.
More than 5 years old SeaWiFS data processed by using NASA SeaDAS standard algorithm (OC4v4) obtained from the NASA Ocean Color Web.
SeaWiFS images older than 5 years are provided with the support and permission of GeoEye. We would like to thank GeoEye for their cooperation. For further information on SeaWiFS, please make enquiry directly to GeoEye.

Notes on the MODIS Chlorophyll Data
The color spectrum changes from blue to green, yellow and red as Chl-a concentration increases. White color is the area where the data is not available due to cloud cover or other reasons. Chl-a density in the tidal flat and bay's interior area may not be correctly shown or represented.

The specifications of sensors for both Terra/MODIS and Aqua/MODIS are the same, but technically, the observation data (brightness) does not coincide with each other due to differences in sensitivity to wavelength and deterioration of the sensors, even if the same target could be observed. In order to reduce or minimize these discrepancies between the sensors, various coefficients are applied to algorithm and radiation transmitter's calculation.

However, these discrepancies cannot be completely corrected and the resulting errors may cause the differences in the observed values. Therefore, users are recommended to take into the account of this point.
